Maneskin won the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 with the song "Zitti e buoni" and since then the superstars from Italy are known all over the world. Damiano David, Victoria De Angelis, Ethan Torchio and Thomas Raggi know each other from school and formed a band together in 2016. Since the bassist is of Danish descent, the group chose as their name the Danish word for moonshine - Måneskin. A short time later, the musicians from Rome presented themselves to the general public when they took part in the TV show "X-Faktor". With their rocking sounds, flashy outfits and eye-catching make-up, Maneskin quickly established themselves as audience favorites and made it all the way to the finals. Even though Maneskin didn't win, their participation in the TV show increased the sales of their first EP "Chosen" from 2017 immensely. With the track "Beggin," Maneskin also delivered a hit that brought them international exposure. In 2018, the Italians released "Il ballo della vita," their debut album. In their home country, the record immediately shot to the top of the charts. The success of the first album was followed by the successor "Teatro d'ira - Vol. I", which appeared in stores in the spring of 2021. In the same period, the band was able to claim the Sanremo Festival competition with "Zitti e buoni". The single was then also ultimately the one with which Maneskin cleared the ESC in 2021.
What makes Maneskin so successful? The band delivers a soundtrack that doesn't limit itself to one genre. In addition to rock, the musical repertoire also includes rap, pop and reggae elements. With songs like "I Wanna Be Your Slave" or "Coraline" Maneskin create one hit after the other. But the band members also present themselves in a unique way on the outside. Maneskin play with gender clichés, ignore conventions and are seen as role models for the young generation.
